Motivational Talks (November 6 – 9 2008)

Ms Nam meeting with Z Fencers and their families during her motivational talks.

What It Takes To Be An Olympic Champion

More than 150 Z Fencers, their families and members of the public got to hear first-hand from Ms Nam about the commitment and sacrifices she had to make enroute to becoming an Olympic Games medalist. During the talk, we aired Ms Nam’s semi-finals and finals bouts.

As Korea’s first woman Olympic medalist, Ms Nam wowed the audience during her final bout with Valentina Vezzali of Italy, who was the defending Olympic Games champion for women’s foil.

What Nam lacked in height against the taller Vezzali, she gained in focus and determination. While Nam lost out in the finals by a solitary point, she had already won the hearts of the audience with her gritty performance.

She also reminded our young fencers that one must have the heart and perseverance to compete at the highest levels. Training up to 6 days a week and more than 5 hours each day during her regular training periods, Ms Nam talked about the various forms of motivation that keep her going through the difficult training.

We look forward to seeing Ms Nam achieve even greater heights through her journey to the London 2012 Olympic Games! Allez!

Ms Nam is the first of a series of Champions that Z Fencing will host as part of “The Best Inspire” initiative to help inspire our young fencers to live like Champions! Stay tuned for more!
